Troubleshooting
My image will not upload
Size, format and the usual reasons a file is refused.
Check the size
Images must be under 4MB. Photos straight off a modern phone or camera are often larger than that. Resize or export at a smaller quality - a website image never needs to be a full-resolution original.
Check the format
- Accepted: JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and AVIF.
- Not accepted: SVG, on purpose - it can carry scripts and your images are served publicly.
- Also not accepted: HEIC from an iPhone, PDF, and design files such as PSD.
- Animated images are refused too, so an animated GIF will not upload. Use a still picture instead.
Check the dimensions
An image can be at most 8000 pixels on either side. That is far more than a website ever needs, so if you see a message about dimensions or too many pixels, resize the picture to about 2000 pixels wide and try again.
Renaming a file does not change what it is. A file called photo.jpg that is really a HEIC will still be refused, because we check the actual contents rather than the name.
Converting an image
- 1On a phone, open the photo and use Share, then Save as JPEG, or take the screenshot route.
- 2On a computer, open it in any image editor and export or save as JPG or PNG.
- 3Upload the converted file.
Tip: Aim for images around 1MB or under. They upload faster, load faster for your visitors, and look identical on a screen.
