Selling online
Create discount coupons
Percentage and fixed-amount codes, with limits and expiry dates.
Coupons are discount codes your customers enter at checkout. They are managed under Commerce, then Coupons.
Creating one
- 1Go to Commerce, then Coupons, and choose "New coupon".
- 2Enter the code customers will type. Short and memorable works best.
- 3Choose percentage off or a fixed amount off, and set the value.
- 4Optionally set a minimum order value, a usage limit and start or expiry dates.
- 5Save.
The options explained
- Minimum order - the coupon is refused below this subtotal.
- Usage limit - the total number of times the code may be used across all customers.
- Starts and expires - the window in which it works. Leave either blank for no bound.
How discounts are calculated
Every coupon is validated on our servers at checkout, against your current products and the real subtotal. A discount can never exceed the subtotal, so a coupon can never produce a negative total or hand money back.
Codes do not stack - one coupon per order. A code with a usage limit is held for the customer while they pay, so the last use cannot be claimed twice. It is only used up when the payment succeeds, and an abandoned or failed checkout releases it again.
Tip: Deactivate a coupon rather than deleting it if you might run the promotion again. Your past orders keep the code they were placed with either way.
