Selling online
How the cart and checkout work
What your customer experiences from add-to-cart through to paying.
Your storefront gives customers a shop page, a page per product, a cart and a checkout, all in your website's own theme.
What your customer does
- 1Browses your shop and opens a product.
- 2Adds it to their cart. The cart is remembered in their browser, so it survives leaving and coming back.
- 3Opens the cart, adjusts quantities and enters a coupon code if they have one.
- 4Goes to checkout and enters their name, email address and phone number.
- 5Chooses Collection / pickup, or Delivery - contact me.
- 6Chooses how to pay, from the payment methods you have switched on.
- 7Pays online on your payment provider's secure page and returns to your site, or places the order and pays you in person.
How customers can pay
You decide which payment methods your store offers under Commerce, then Payments. A customer only ever sees the ones that are switched on and ready to use.
- Pay securely online - the customer pays on your payment provider's page. It needs a connected provider.
- Cash on delivery - offered with delivery. The order is placed straight away and the customer pays in cash when it arrives.
- Pay on collection - offered with collection. The order is placed straight away and the customer pays when they collect it.
Cash orders stay unpaid in your dashboard until you record that you have received the money. Delrity cannot know that cash changed hands.
What your customer receives
Once an order is placed (cash orders) or paid (online orders), your customer gets a confirmation email with a private tracking link, which opens a page showing the order's progress. They get one more email when a delivery order goes out for delivery, or when a collection order is ready to collect.
How your prices are protected
The customer's browser only ever tells us which products and how many. Every price, every discount, the availability of each item and the final total are recalculated on our servers from your current products before any payment is started. A tampered browser cannot buy anything at the wrong price.
Delivery
Checkout offers collection or a request for you to make contact about delivery, and tells the customer you will be in touch about the details and any cost. There is no courier integration, no delivery zones and no automatic shipping rates in this version, so delivery is arranged between you and your customer.
